I am totally unfamiliar with Commedia dell’Arte and am unable to ‘get the joke’. Is the protagonist Flavio?

The joke has little to do with Commedia dell’Arte. “I shall just die!” paraphrasing “Add me to your will first.” A small, ancient joke.

I just reread it, I had totally missed the line “then I shall just die!”. I’m so freaken stoopid today! Ancient? Possibly. More like tried and true.

Note to self: no more “Fumetto dell’Arte.”

Bruce F: Commedia dell’Arte consisted of a number of stories centering around stock characters, such as La inammorati (the lovers) who were usually Flavio and Isabella, their parents Pantalone Bosognose and Il Dottore, the servants or “zanni” (like Arlechinno or Harlequin). There are a number of good pages about it if you’re curious.
I’d just run out of stuff to do with the regular characters this week.
