Not sure why, but it surprises me that a true liberal is in favor of corporal punishment. I believe such corrective actions have their place, and think of myself as somewhat of a liberal too. I would not think of corporal punishment as a cure-all though. (not saying you do, but that seems to be the thinking of some.)
Nope. Some kids are incorrigible. And I am only being half serious. But one of the best ways of keeping us in line was the “wait til your father gets home” line. He rarely if ever laid a hand on us but it was a combination of fear and dread (of disappointing parents) that curbed our excesses. The idea that you can’t wallop your kids implies they will take advantage of you, their teachers, smaller kids, and other victims. And if they are brought up without punishment or consequences, many/most will turn out that way. Just because I am a liberal does not mean everyone can do to me and others whatever the hell they please.
