The ONLY actor who played the Lone ranger is Clayton Moore.

Dont worry Gunther, no one else saw the movie either…I loved the real Lone Ranger, Clayton Moore…never missed it when I was a kid…on radio or TV…

Amen, brothers and sisters. Clayton Moore was THE Lone Ranger! Even Gunther should know that!

And Harold J. Smith (aka Jay Silverheels) was THE Tonto.

I think it is unreasonable to make comparisons if you haven’t seen the steaming pile that recently got dumped on the theaters.

There was one season in which Moore was replaced by John Hart.

I wonder if Jay would have agreed to take the role if he knew that Tonto is the Spanish word for “stupid”? (I am not making this up.)

I knew I was going to boycott that movie! The Lone Ranger never wore black (or a badge). And Tonto with face paint and dreadlocks? PLEASE.

I had to check on that to be sure. You’ve just ruined my whole view on The Lone Ranger and Tonto. I always felt that the portrayal of Tonto was a bit racist, but that they outright named him “Stupid” is horrible. I will never watch ANY portrayal of these characters again!

I doubt that Spanish was even considered back when the original series was made. Back in those days, “Tonto” was an Indian name. It meant many things, but most think it was because of an Apache Tribe called Tonto’s. Tonto was not an Apache, but who knows? It was a show and very successful. I never missed it.

Personally, I think the Spanish-translation is coincidential. And I’m currently "not missing’ the show, it airs weekday mornings on COZI-TV (Ch. 62, Lawrence-Boston, MA).

Yup, you can’t replace Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels. I love Johnny Depp but this just looked like another variation of Jack Sparrow.

You aren’t the first to express that opinion.

As a real fan of the show when I was a kid, who knew nothing about being racist…I just loved The Lone Ranger and Tonto…and never missed the show…
