Phil Frank’s The Elderberries centers around Dusty, a cowboy whose middle aged daughter has decided it’s time for him to hang up his spurs and move to Elderpark, a retirement community. While there, Dusty meets the Professor, a great brain with a bad memory; Evelyn, who can still see well enough to drive at night; and the General, a veteran with bad hips and a lot of stories. Together, they deal with medications, the loss of youth, and their adult children while maintaining their humor and building their friendships.

This strip used to be edgy, thought prevoking and sometimes; whimsical …BUT usually funny.

Fancy duds?
You can find everything that Dusty Winters is wearing to day at a Western Clothing Store.
That shirt appears to be a Brooks and Dunn Flame shirt made by Panhandle Slim. That’s a brand name and they do make the shirt for larger men.
Dusty is all dressed up to go nowhere. Apparently, his daughter who got him to go to Elderpark decided that he could keep his old Cadillac with the longhorn hood ornament. But, the wheels were removed to keep him from wandering off.
Since Dusty does have his horse across the fence from the complex, he could still take off if he wanted.

Oh, when Dusty has a “best friend,” that person is suckered into getting involved in Dusty’s schemes.
