Phil Frank’s The Elderberries centers around Dusty, a cowboy whose middle aged daughter has decided it’s time for him to hang up his spurs and move to Elderpark, a retirement community. While there, Dusty meets the Professor, a great brain with a bad memory; Evelyn, who can still see well enough to drive at night; and the General, a veteran with bad hips and a lot of stories. Together, they deal with medications, the loss of youth, and their adult children while maintaining their humor and building their friendships.

Two story flaws: One, Las Vegas machines don’t take coins anymore. Second, if you win $1,200 or more, the machine locks up, the attendants pay by hand, and you have to fill out a tax form.

Never let the facts get in the way of a good story.

If he keeps winning small the machine keeps totaling up the winning until he hits the payout button and gets his slip to place into the pay machine or take to the cashier. I ve been there (although not to often).

I have only played a slot machine once. I had a layover at the Las Vegas airport and I decided that I would use $5.00 for “entertainment” while I was waiting for the flight back to Tulsa. (I had come to there from the Burbank, CA airport.)
I didn’t win any extra money; but, except for what I spent on food, I left Vegas with the same amount of money as I arrived there.

Better get some help to carry his winnings. $5k in nickels weighs over 275 lbs!
