With its tortured perspective, gritty realism, and outlandish urban humor, Derf’s The City has kept an outsider’s beat on current events, trends and out-there aspects of contemporary culture since 1990. Whether depicting the coarse insanity of modern urban life or the ultra-clean realm of the feature’s only recurring character - White Middle Class Suburban Man - Derf uses dissonant humor to speak up for what he calls "the common schlub."

@jimjammer
Truthfully he looks a lot more like Scott Walker; Barrett’s hair is much grayer, almot white, and his face is rounder. But then, you just wanted to dig on democrats rather than make a relevant comment, anyway. Typical.

In my local area there is an entire family of professional panhandlers. They stake out both exit ramps, North and South bound on an interstate with signs saying Homeless need help. They are neither homeless or in need of help. Not financial anyway. They have been doing it for years. The father used to hang out in front of the local Aldi’s and ask people if he could take their carts back for them. You have to put a quarter in the slot to use the carts and get it back at the end you see. I used to feel sorry for him until I watched him get into his beemer one day.

Once in Salt Lake City there was a guy with a sign that said, “Why lie? I need a beer.” It was a big success. He got a lot of beers and dollars.

I should tell the “Will work for food” guy at my exit ramp that it is customary to step to the bushes to urinate.

Is “The City” no longer updated on GoComics?
