My 6 year old daughter explained to me why she was old enough to live her life without me telling her what to do. That was almost 20 years ago and it still makes me smile.

Fifteen used to be the age where you were expected to go off and work your own plot of land and marry some girl and start your own life. What do you supposed happened that we still have some growin’ up to do these days? I’m not disagreeing with you at all, mind. I’m just fascinated by the different possible answers.

15-year-olds were treated as, and expected to act like, adults back then. The pressure to be an adult was enormous, mainly because it was necessary. Today? So many are trying to be young that they act immature way past an acceptable age.

    Bubble Wrapping kids.
14 year old girls were oft married to 20 and 30 year old me, as late as the 1920’s in the US and Canada. They were expected to have big families, and stay at home.
We changed … women work, they leave the house, they get married later, etc etc.
Society as a whole, has changed. I’d like to take a time trip back to the 1600’s, and take with me a few bricks of gold.

Go look in the mirror with a picture of yourself at 15. And be thankful you didnt have to do all that farming & adult stuff at 15.
Besides…I read someone that men arent really mature until they are in their mid thirties.
