    He’s right, the Pres wants the Gov. to control everything so why not the sirens. Oh heck, this will probably give the Pres. ideas to create a Siren Czar.

    Or the idea to get people like you to shut up. One can only hope.

    This one is loosely based on something my oldest son said when he was very young. He made some comment about the color of fire trucks and why the president chose it. It then occurred to me that, as a child, my son couldn’t imagine what the president’s job really was, but merely ascribed to him the most important duties he could conceive. Having said that, I’ll quote The Big Bang Theory’s characters in reference to comments I assume will be made here for the rest of the day- “Oh, here we go…”

    Four firefighters in Pittsburgh Pa filed suit in court alleging that the sirens on their firetrucks caused their hearing loss. They claim that the sirens are too loud and the truck manufacturers did not insulate the cabs sufficiently to protect those inside.

    Gee Michael it’s all about free speech until someone disagrees with your view.

    My dad lost a lot of his hearing because he sold guitars, keyboards, etc and amplifiers for years. I don’t think he can file suit anywhere about it.

    So true! So true! It is all about Power and Control! Remember that “The government that governs best, governs least!”

    All of us in EMS suffered because the sirens were on top of the cab, only inches from our ears. On my last two patrol rigs I had the siren mounted behind the grill. It was still noisy but not near as bad as my first 20 years of service.

    It would take LOTS of ear protection to solve the problem of being in a tin cab with a siren on top of it. Then you couldn’t hear the radios (I had 4 for a while). I could just see it…running lights and siren to an incident, jump out, take my muffs off, and move to the incident. Not workable. Just put them behind the grill or under the front bumper on cab over fire units.

    @Michael Farren

    It always amazes me to find someone who wants to be tolerant and inclusive but only when he is with people with whom he agrees. Otherwise he wants the other to be silenced.

    Wearing ear plugs is recent. 35 years ago I was told most of my hearing above 6KHz was gone. Part of the problem was driving around with the car window down. Well, rock & roll and gunfire had something to do with it, too. :-D
