That’s the thinking behind the leftist belief that businessmen constantly cheat people, even try to poison them, so only constant government regulation can protect the public. The free market works, but that’s not what the schools teach nowadays.

That wasn’t the ax I was grinding. I was making fun of some of the very very very small businessmen that come and go around here. Sorry. I think your point is funny too, though.

I think they actually use Toby’s shoe theory with woman’s shoes! My shoes always wear out so much faster than my husbands. What’s up with that?

They wouldn’t go to other shoe stores because your shoes will be cheaper, way cheaper than the good shoes. And you can call your store TobyMart.

When you are down to a few shoe store conglomerates and they decide to work together they can give you inferior made shoes, by poor 12 year olds working under slave conditions. It is the American way these days.

I’m pretty sure this is walmart’s business model. And it works because people don’t want to pay for quality “up front”, they’d rather buy shoes every few months for cheap than buy a pair or two that will last for years. People are stupid.

I think your last sentence sums up a business basic.

Unfortunately, there are those who simply do not have the money on hand all at once to pay for the better product that will last twice as long, all they can afford is lesser quality that lasts half as long but costs half as much. I know, I’ve been there.
