Art holds a mirror up to Nature. The Buckets come along, turn the mirror on Art and say, “Look how goofy you’re acting. Now get to work, Art. Your kids need an Xbox 360.”
The Buckets comic strip isn’t a parody of family life. Parodies are filled with hearts and rainbows or enraged tirades and dramatic confrontation. The Buckets, though? Nope. Real life, baby. It’s funny because it’s on a page and not in your house at the moment. Next week, when it’s happening to you, you’ll thank us for reminding you that it’s supposed to be funny.
Greg Cravens looks in the mirror and see not himself, but all of us. And then he draws up the silly, grand, goofy, thrilling, utterly human things we do and calls it The Buckets.

Unfortunately, Pastis’ puns are neither dirty, nor hidden.

Shakespeare! and Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales—wow! My students went crazy when I taught them what they were really saying!

Hobby horse. Country matters. And all Ophelia’s flowers. If you read Shakespeare, you really need a well-annotated edition. (And that doesn’t even mention the “English” lesson in French in Henry V.)

George Carlin said about 7 words on tv… about the usage of those words:
You can prick your finger, but don’t finger your p***k.

Fletcher used the same trick to encourage Ives to read ‘Little Women’…

Once you learn the language – which just takes reading about half a dozen in a well-annotated edition (I recommend the Signet paperbacks), Will is easier to understand than many if not most modern playwrights.

Jonathan Swift invented a place called Laputa – which is Spanish for “The Ho.” Not an accident. He knew dirty words in Spanish.

The concept of “dirty words” is a myth created by myth believing people to think words are magical.
