Art holds a mirror up to Nature. The Buckets come along, turn the mirror on Art and say, “Look how goofy you’re acting. Now get to work, Art. Your kids need an Xbox 360.”
The Buckets comic strip isn’t a parody of family life. Parodies are filled with hearts and rainbows or enraged tirades and dramatic confrontation. The Buckets, though? Nope. Real life, baby. It’s funny because it’s on a page and not in your house at the moment. Next week, when it’s happening to you, you’ll thank us for reminding you that it’s supposed to be funny.
Greg Cravens looks in the mirror and see not himself, but all of us. And then he draws up the silly, grand, goofy, thrilling, utterly human things we do and calls it The Buckets.

You’d think somebody’d be saying the world would end on 12-12-12, but then, it’d hit the Southern hemisphere first, right? And it’d still be 12-11-12 in the U.S. (home of the free-est kind of crazy) and everyone would get all confused and disappointed.

It’s supposedly on 12/21, but I’ve read a couple of articles that pointed out that the dates that were used to compare the Mayan to the Gregorian calendars were miscalculated and the date might be up to 40-50 years off.
Aside from that, it’s just where their calendar stopped… the end of our calendars just mean that another year is coming, not that the world is ending. ;-)

how to confuse a non-Canadian that lives south of Canada … write the date 12-21-12 as 21-12-12.

Now as to signs the world is coming to an end…. the cat brings you a present that you can actually touch without gloves (and for no particular reason). ….. it snows – on a school day, allowing you a school snow day and the scheduled exams cancelled until next year! You get an “A” on your math exam. Without studying!!! Timmy runs back to the farm for help because Lassie is stuck in the well, after rescuing Timmy. Green eggs and Ham are found to not only taste good but are a cure ot old age.

Someone coming from 500 back or 500 in the future might look at our world differently. One would say it is a Golden Age, the other as a wretched hell on earth.
