Art holds a mirror up to Nature. The Buckets come along, turn the mirror on Art and say, “Look how goofy you’re acting. Now get to work, Art. Your kids need an Xbox 360.”
The Buckets comic strip isn’t a parody of family life. Parodies are filled with hearts and rainbows or enraged tirades and dramatic confrontation. The Buckets, though? Nope. Real life, baby. It’s funny because it’s on a page and not in your house at the moment. Next week, when it’s happening to you, you’ll thank us for reminding you that it’s supposed to be funny.
Greg Cravens looks in the mirror and see not himself, but all of us. And then he draws up the silly, grand, goofy, thrilling, utterly human things we do and calls it The Buckets.

Awww, I bet he thinks he’s going to go for a walk. That’s what my dog thinks when I put on my shoes.

@ODDBALL
that’s why I trained my dog not to lick me when ever she did i would grab her tongue not enough to hurt her just for a sec or two to make her finally stop

We have a cat that does that whenever we’re trying to read a book…

Dogzilla rocks!
I love the coloring of the Sunday strips. No offense to Joey who does a wonderful job, but Greg’s coloring is probably the best of all the comics I follow.
I love in particular the shades that give the figures a sort of three-dimensionality some weeks. Greg: do you do that in Photoshop perhaps using some gradient or something like that, or do you use special drawing/painting tools for the Sundays as you described last week?

@Strod
I color everything flat, then use a photoshop tool to do the shadows. Typically, it’s only on flesh tones, but sometimes I get carried away, and sometimes, I think it won’t look good and leave things flat.
