Here’s the way to find north if you live far enough north in the Northern Hemisphere so that there is usually snow on the pasture in early November:
The sun rises in the East and sets in the west. If you are facing the sun when it comes up, North is to your left.
Here in Tulsa, Oklahoma, if you have a sundial and you want to make it correct with Central Standard time, you have to move it so that when the clock says 12:00 noon, the pointer goes toward the Northwest a little bit.
When Sun time is high noon here, it is 12:30 PM CST.
But, apparently Stan didn’t tell Rory to look for moss on the trees which grows on the north side of tree trunks.
In today’s strip, Rory is a long way from the trees in the background.

Point the little hand of your watch at the sun.
Divide the distance between the little hand
and 12 oclock and that is South. Every scout
knows that. Not useful at night.

I’ve always wondered what the ability to draw circles has to do with finding North.

the ground looks like it is covered with snow, which might make it hard for rory to use the sun to figure out where he is

With your short-term memory loss, Rory, I’m surprised you remembered to remember what Stan told you.
