I’ve always wondered why there are both Phillip’s and flat head screwdrivers. You think it’d be simpler to just have one or the other.

    Re: different screwdrivers

There are more than just Philips and flathead. There are Torx, tamper-resistant, hex head, and others. Different screws and drivers for different applications. Flat head are cheapest, Philips are better for powered and/or automated drivers, tamper-resistant is self-explanatory, et cetera.

Leonard: What would you be if you were attached to another object by an inclined plane, wrapped helically around an axis?
    Sheldon: Screwed.
    Leonard: There you go.
