Actually, they knew the Earth was round as early as Aristotle’s time, and they had a round globe produced by 1492, only with the Americas left out. Washington Irving invented the whole Columbus myth.
None of these became popular for obvious reasons. But the Marie Antoinette “Let them Eat E-Z-Bake Cake Oven” was IMMENSELY popular. This thing caused rioting in the streets. When there weren’t enough supplies to meet demand, Marie lost her head position, and her place in popular history was quickly filled by a mysterious ghost writer/chef named Betty Crocker.
The Argyle Sweater presents a surreal, hilarious (and sometimes punny) look at the world you think you know. Armed with a willingness to explore every edge of the surreal, Scott Hilburn’s creation presents his sharply unique take on history, everyday life and the truly absurd.
