When I was young, mothers were always carping at kids to clean their plates, because kids in China were starving. We were all as skinny as rails as we played outside all day and moms cooked food with lard, butter, sugar, etc. Now kids are obese as they cannot go out and play all day because gang-bangers, drug dealers and perverts rule the streets and the public parks. So kids stay indoors, vegetate in front of TV and other electronic devices, eat “light” and still weigh twice what we weighed. They also go to school longer yet get lower SAT scores even after the standards have been lowered at least twice. Children must run around like maniacs to burn off energy and to stimulate their minds. Now we drug them and call them hyper active attention deficit. Let them out to play all day and a lot of that will disappear.

Maybe it’s just your neighborhood. You might consider moving.
I just looked outside, no drug dealers, no hookers (you forgot those), non gang-bangers, no perverts. Actually no kids, because this neighborhood’s kids are all teenagers and in college or married and moved away.
My last neighborhood I backed up to a park/school playground that was full of kids swinging, playing ball and chase, joggers using the jogging path. Softball games, tennis players on the court.

My Dad came up in the early 1900’s when food was prepared that way…but he was always active, and worked hard all his life…finally “retired” at 87 and continued to work at his house…till he finally passed away at 90. Can you imagine kids of today…fast food and couch potatoes living very long?

At least we don’t smoke and drink like the old days, and we might turn the corner on healthy foods and exercise. It’s also possible in the future that people will learn to limit electronic device time. I see it happening a little now compared to a couple of years ago.
