The Born Loser began in 1965 as a strip with no central characters that revolved around the loser theme. Gradually, it developed into the comic we see today, starring lovable loser Brutus Thornapple, his wife Gladys, mother-in-law Ramona Gargle, boss Rancid Veeblefester, dim-witted son Wilberforce and the mischievous neighbor Hurricane Hattie O'Hara.
Artist Chip Sansom began apprenticing for his father, Born Loser creator Art Sansom, in 1977. He became a full-time assistant, and gradually took on an ever-increasing role in the drawing and gag-writing duties until his father passed away in 1991.

Expression on his face tells us it’s a breadbox

Younger people nowadays don’t even know what a breadbox IS.

Is it similar to an icebox???

Looking back I see no use for a breadbox. I put my bread in the fridge (or freezer if I have another loaf to be eaten)

From what I understand it’s a bad idea to put bread in the fridge because it looses nutrients. For those who don’t know, a bread box was a special box (usually metal with a sliding door) to store bread in so it wasn’t left out in the open and dry out.. Actually I keep my bread in the fridge too, but I’ve heard about the it loosing nutrition if you keep it there.

I may be wrong, but I put that “bread in the fridge” idea in the same category as “don’t put bananas in the fridge.” This idea was advanced so customers would leave bananas out to rot and more bananas could be sold.

My bread gets moldy if it is left out. THAT is the reason for the fridge (or the freezer if it’s new)

Maybe it’s the same size as a bread box. Without being a bread box.
