The Born Loser began in 1965 as a strip with no central characters that revolved around the loser theme. Gradually, it developed into the comic we see today, starring lovable loser Brutus Thornapple, his wife Gladys, mother-in-law Ramona Gargle, boss Rancid Veeblefester, dim-witted son Wilberforce and the mischievous neighbor Hurricane Hattie O'Hara.
Artist Chip Sansom began apprenticing for his father, Born Loser creator Art Sansom, in 1977. He became a full-time assistant, and gradually took on an ever-increasing role in the drawing and gag-writing duties until his father passed away in 1991.

When I drank wine, I’d go with a sweet Rose’.
Tonight, it’s lemonade from the lemon bounty (48 harvested just before Thanksgiving!) of the tree we keep captive in our greenhouse. We let her have all the backyard freedom she wants in the Spring/Summer/Autumn. She’s blooming now, but it’s too cold to open the greenhouse.
Windows from the greenhouse, 4 each on 3 sides, from the Habitat For Humanity Re-store, $10 each, and an old double set of doors from there on the 4th side. Got us some ’Naner trees, too!
I quit drinking wine because it kept me from going to the temple.

He prefers hard cider, unfiltered. Brutus should learn to cook, since his wife may not be able to do fancy recipes. Then he can have fancy food at a cheaper price and avoid these encounters. Worked for me.
