The Born Loser began in 1965 as a strip with no central characters that revolved around the loser theme. Gradually, it developed into the comic we see today, starring lovable loser Brutus Thornapple, his wife Gladys, mother-in-law Ramona Gargle, boss Rancid Veeblefester, dim-witted son Wilberforce and the mischievous neighbor Hurricane Hattie O'Hara.
Artist Chip Sansom began apprenticing for his father, Born Loser creator Art Sansom, in 1977. He became a full-time assistant, and gradually took on an ever-increasing role in the drawing and gag-writing duties until his father passed away in 1991.

I had a boss once who said I couldn’t take sick leave to take my sick pet to the vet. I think it’s accepted for children but mine were old enough to drive themselves.

I don’t even have dental ins on me and my wife. My reg health care rates just went up from $870 / month to $945/month next year! Work two jobs now 9:45 – 4 3 or 4 or 5 days a week or whatever I can get @ $8.35 /hr and 40 hrs/wk 5:30 PM – 2 AM @ $11/hr. No benefits at either job.
@whmill, Speaking as an unaffiliated voter fed up with both parties, wish they could have cooperated and compromised, maybe we would have a good plan instead of what we got. But then again it is just like the financial situation, everybody is blindly following party lines. Can nobody vote with their brain and vote what they feel is right instead of blindly following the party line? At this rte why not just have one Rep and Demo in Congress, the others are redundant.

I used to work for an insurance company and people would try to pass off their pet as a child to get it covered. Unfortunately, the names of the pets were a clue they weren’t human children. The claims were denied and they were charged with fraud.

Any type of insurance out there you use it, your rates end up going up while others stay down. Sure there is occasional adjustment across the board but overall the heavy users pay alot more. That is why people who are constantly in car accidents have sky hi auto rates.
Health insurance though is unique in that it isn’t designed to not be used, it is designed to be used. Thus rates have to go up every year, and if heavy users rates go up while others stay down people scream that its unfair.
Hence, health insurance rates will always go up and no law, no matter how good its intentions is going to keep rates down.
In fact as demand for doctors and healthcare professionals increase, the costs will go up (supply and demand) so what used to be many doctors fighting for a few patients turns into many patients fighting for doctors, doctors can charge more for their services. Some will even drop government insurance to avoid cost restrictions.
The best thing anyone can do to help lower costs is make the market place more competitive. In my state I currently have to wait two weeks to get into a doctors appointment. I have several different doctors I try and there is a severe lack of Doctors, I think all of them use nurse practictioners now because its more cost effective. I can only imagine how bad it will be when all of the health care over haul patients get added to the doctors workload. We’ll be a month or two out trying to make simple appointments.

THAT is why I am a Decline to State voter…not a nickle’s worth of difference between the two.

To Angelfire: The only insurance that can raise your rates and no one elses is Auto Insurance. Those raises should be based on your driving record and the car. Most people don’t realize that any ticked, except parking ticket, has the potential to raise your rates as it puts the company more at risk. Cannot raise for no reason at all unless they raise everybodys in the same area. Health and life clearly state their rates, usually at 5 year intervals so you know those rates are coming. IF you have a company that raises your rates and no one elses, call them to find out why. If you don’t get satisfacdtion call your state Insurance Commissioner. The number should be in your telephone directory or online and the Commissioner is there primarily to help help the public, not the company. Hope this information helps you.

Property rates can also rise even though you do not have a claim. You have to help pay for those people who were hit by huricanes, tornadoes, etc.

I don’t understand why not. You can claim your kid on your insurance, and the dog is basically your kid (if not better than).

My cat has a tooth going bad and I’m going to have to squeeze out over $100 to get it pulled. As for me, thank God I’m a vet and that the VA isn’t charging me a co-pay because my income’s so low. There’s no way I could afford to pay for the 31 pills, two blood-sugar tests and 14 units of insulin per day it takes to keep me alive and “well.”

You hit the nail on the head. If auto insurance covered oil changes and routine maintenance, imagine what it would cost.

That may not work with my family. All of our pets have true, full human names, including middle names!
