Just a fine mist to cool down all the evangelistic ardor.

If that were a seagull instead of a dove, it wouldn’t be “inspiration” that was shooting down at him…

“John the Evangelist”? Is he related to “John the Baptist”?

Click-to-enlarge image can be found here, or at the only work, by this artist, so far, to appear in Mr. Melcher’s blog.

St. John the Evangelist in Patmos (links show Wikipedia pages, Catholic Encyclopedia entry and here) is the center panel in the St. John Altarpiece, shown with a different coloration image, and described by its current-location page.

Another different coloration, click-to-enlarge image can be found here, along with a short description. It is discussed on pages 203-204 and 218 of an online book.

The artist’s Catholic Encyclopedia bio, Wikipedia page (Google translated German Wikipedia page has more) and collection (more under Subcategories).

No. John the Evangelist is the author of the Gospel of John. There is debate over whether he is the same John as John the Apostle and/or the author of the Book of Revelation and various other works, but everyone agrees he is not the same John as the Baptist.
