Sign says “No shirts, no shoes, no service.” Doesn’t mention pants.

Click-to-enlarge image can be found here. A smaller enlargement can be found at Mr. Melcher’s blog entry.

But it was completed in 1663, not 1390 (you would think the architecture and clothing would have been a clue for Mr. Melcher). The signature and date are below the leftmost standing child.

Jan van Eyck was born in 1385, so he would have been pretty old in 1663, had he not died in 1441. I’ve added info about him in a new comment elsewhere.

As the above here link (what Mr. Melcher used for his blog image, how he got the name wrong is truly baffling) states, the painting is by Jan de Bray.

Caring for children at the Orphanage in Haarlem: three Acts of Mercy (link shows Wikipedia page) is shown, and described, by its current-location page (source of the click-to-enlarge image link above).

A different coloration, click-to-enlarge image can be found here. He also penned a version, presented online here. His Wikipedia page and collection.

Second (where Mr. Melcher only had the date wrong by 98 years, at least he had the artist correct) work by him, so far, to appear here.

Tubby on the far right don’t look to be missin’ a whole lot of meals. Is the guy with the bad rug putting some moves on the lady with the large breadbasket?

    mabrndt,
Thank you for your comments on the painting. I often try to find out more about the artists and the work featured in THAT IS PRICELESS. Today, I was doing a lot of fruitless searching. I sincerely appreciate your comments. Thank you.

There’s an old Italian song that essentially says, “I would sell my pantaloons for a plate of macaroni.”

You know some strange things. That’s a compliment. not a criticism.
