    Circus troupe: the fat lady, the bearded lady, and the guy with his vestigial Siamese twin under his jacket. Manager in the background.

    I’d suggest a canal boat… but that might tend to limit the size of the audience…

    @finale

    Had to correct something. But alas, no Edit button (I really miss it); so the reply indicator in your comment was lost.

    Like yesterday, today is another repeat. As I wrote back then, this is oil on panel. I guess Mr. Melcher doesn’t read my comments. Maybe this’ll be a week of repeats.

    Modestly enlarged image can be found here, or at the only work, by this artist, so far, to appear in Mr. Melcher’s blog.

    The De Goyer family and the Painter isn’t, as far as I can tell, shown by its current-location (Bing translated). Perhaps it’ll be shown online in the future.

    A different coloration, enlarged image can be found here. This (click the PDF link to see a b&w image of this painting) identifies the figures as:

    Hendrick de Goyer, steward of Heemstede, and his wife Anna Questiers flanking the latter’s sister Catharina Questiers, poet and etcher, with van Ostade standing nearby
    (links show Wikipedia pages, Bing translation of her bio, his collection).
