“No I won’t marry you, not even for half your kingdom. I’d rather raise this kid on my own.”

Enlarged image can be found here (along with a description), or at Mr. Melcher’s blog entry.

Semiramis Called to Arms (link shows her Wikipedia page) is privately owned.

This has an interactive enlargement, as well as a magnifying glass (as one of the Actions under the image). Perhaps that can be used to figure out why the painting sold for a then auction record price of £1.3 million in 2005 (search for 2005, $2,215,303) — because of the mirrored sleeve behind the crown on the table?

That would be a little over $2.59M today. The artist‘s Catholic Encyclopedia page, Wikipedia page (Google translated Italian Wikipedia page has more) and collection (more under Subcategories at each level).

Second of the 4 works by this artist, that have, so far, appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog, to also appear here.

Thank’s for that. Let’s set aside our mirth for a moment and give silent remembrance to those brave men who gave their lives on this day 71 years ago at Pearl Harbor. To all of those of the Finest Generation who served to protect our freedoms, Thank you for your service and God Bless You All !
