    I recall very distinctly Rall’s cartoon about Bush, jr that the US Constitution demands that each president be worse than his predecessor. That seemed impossible after Bush, jr.

    Of course, a president’s achievements are a vector, and it’s hard to compare vectors, since it’s a sad mathematical fact that only scalars can be totally ordered.

    But certainly, Obama has taken SOME of the worst things Bush, jr did and managed to expand them.

    (And, unlike his buddy in the cartoon, the great economist Adolph Schicklegrüber, Obama hasn’t gotten the whole world economy back into full production and completely eliminated global unemployment, nor does he even seem to be thinking about trying to achieve any such thing when it’s much more important to solve the servant problem.)

    I love my country, but fear my government. That’s a bumper sticker displayed on the living room wall because I gave up driving for cycling over 20 years ago. I have 2 young boys and I fear their world will be much worse than mine. All I can do is make sure they’re smart enough to adapt.

    It was easy to find law-abiding Jews who dutifully registered, and Jews whose existence was known to any law-abiding European who promptly turned them in, but some Jews failed to register, and some of their neighbours failed to turn them in.

    With PRISM, it would have been a lot easier and cheaper to round up those lawbreaking Jews and their lawbreaking neighbours.

    The Nazis also relied on census data in the occupied countries that includes religion. Still, you can’t really compare index cards with the ease of digital searching.

    The one who makes the Hitler reference first always loses the argument. Sorry that’s the rule.

    Exactly so. The Nazis were efficient, but they would have been much more so with access to NSA-like technology. Inefficiency is good when it comes to government power.

    @Harleyquinn

    And right here is a prime example of the intellectual achievement of home schooling. Harley, Harly you need to read a little history book once in a while.

    What the hell are you talking about?
    .
    Harley, in my opinion you are an intelligent person with a misguided axe to grind. But sometimes you just don’t make any sense, and I don’t mean solely because of faulty sentence structure.

    One poor Dutch man made it hard on his own countrymen during WWII, by making i.d. cards harder to forge. He was proud…at first…http://www.dutchparisblog.com
