The United States, like all capitalist countries, is ruled by an oligarchy, and always has been. These money-driven elections are a farce. Let us not confuse “democracy” with oligarchy. We have certain democratic rights – the Bill of Rights – that the oligarchs were forced to concede to us through protest – but that is not the same as demo-cracy, rule by majority. Otherwise, unemployment, poverty, injustice, and war would be abolished.

We old fogies are not up on the modern argot. Mr Rall is. Perhaps ‘totes’ is how young whippersnappers SMS/tweet ‘totally’?

The US is, in theory, a Republic with representative democracy. So, in theory, we could vote all the SOBs out of office.

Fortunately, we have the patriotic US press to help the oligarchs retain full control. They reported a vicious attack by North Vietnam on US forces in international waters, and pointed out that, if the US did not retaliate immediately, it would be another Munich, only, after the Commies overran the US, there would be no one to save us the way we saved the UK and France from the Nazis.

So Americans voted overwhelmingly to support the war.

In 2003, the US press patriotically reported that Saddam had a massive nuclear arsenal days from completion. Again, the voters strongly supported the war to prevent a nuclear holocaust by Saddam. (This, of course, absolutely required no-bid contracts for Halliburton, and a 400% increase in the price of oil to help those with oil holdings.)

Our press will continue to tell us that we have the best elected officials in the world.

(Or at least the best elected officials money can buy, but they would never publish or broadcast THAT.)

Unfortunately, I do. We seem to pick the worst and the second worst person in the country to run it, and then get to choose between them.

What are the chances Gore would have taken us into Iraq? Thousands of lives saved, billions of dollars not wasted. Worth a try.

I personally watched a group from a mentally retarded “Clients” come into “work” with I voted stickers. These people don’t know their own name some time. But i can tell you for a fact that they voted for Gore. So don’t bring up that un true meme of how some how “bush stole the election”

Yea, but if the percentage of voters that actually do is any indication there are on hell of a lot of smart Americans!

How about this, If you are on the public dole for more than 50% of your income, you lose your vote! I bet you believe that could not be legal. I bet you believe that “democratically” voting is a constitutional right or something. I mean you have that idiot constitutional scholar Obama throwing out the word like mob rule is how we have always done it and it is the next best thing next to free stuff he will give you for the vote.

Saddam would still be in power. We would not have recovered from the economic bubbles and another 9 11 might just have happened. Gas would cost over $10 gallon becuase he would have worked out how to shut sown the gas in the USA and the middle east would have stopped selling the gas in USA $. They might have switched over to the Ero or something because the USA failed to back up allies over there.

I’m just an old Dead Head, who as a former teacher is somewhat bemused by what texters & tweeters do to the English language & I figured out ‘totes’ immediately. What I couldn’t fathom is what an umbrella had to do with it.

“Dems round up homeless bums and buy their votes for a pack of cigs and a drink.” Can you document that with a reliable reference or is that just another mindless right wing nut sound bite?

You do not understand Civics 101. Let me help you “democracy” does not appear in the Constitution nor the Bill of Rights. So no matter what Obama says, that is not how it works. “democracy” is the mob Rule Obama supported in Egypt.

Just another wing nut being contemptuous of the general public and showing his true colors.
