Yesterday, PAJ called me a liar for posting that Obama has deported more people per annum than any other president. I was in a hurry, and did not have time to post any links.

Politifact called it a lie in 2012 when people said Obama had deported more than any other president. In 3½ years, Obama deported about 70% as many Hispanics as Bush, Jr deported in 8 years. That’s a lot more per annum.

Of course, Obamabots say that Obama is only deporting criminals, and they’re right: if your parents brought you into the US without papers as a baby, and you’re still here, you’re a criminal in violation of US immigration law. But criminals who’ve committed any other crime make up a small percentage of Obama’s deportations, roughly 16%.

PAJ, please don’t click on any of my links. You don’t want to go there. You already know that Obama coddles illegal Hispanics, lets them vote repeatedly without any ID, and has never deported a single one as long as they promise to cast their illegal votes for Democrats, and I wouldn’t want you to get confused.

I can see your rejecting Mother Jones, which is definitely left-wing (but based on revealed sources). Most people tend to accept Politifact, but I can see why you wouldn’t. I could also post the link to the raw data from the DHS and the ICE, but, since Obama is president, all official US government data is undoubtedly fabricated.

I, of course, completely agree that Obama’s real birth certificate shows he is not a US citizen, since he was clearly born in Hawaii, an island that the law recognises is part of Kenya.

The case has been made, the duck is lame!
    .
The goal is to do better.
    .
If your goal is to climb the highest mountain, it helps if you have a picture of Mt. Everest. And then it helps if you have pictures of the lower peaks you will need to climb to be ready for the highest (it is suicide to get up from years as a couch potato and try to climb Everest as your first ever climb. Ever Rest is the sum of what you will achieve.)

Move Forward if you want progress!

I note your use of a possessive (“your”) with the gerund (“rejecting”). These days most people use a personal pronoun (“you”) followed by a participle (“rejecting”). The gerund and the participle have the same form, so it’s easy for people to reanalyze the construction. There’s a slight difference in emphasis — the gerund construction emphasizes the action (“What I notice it the rejecting that you are doing”) while the participle construction emphasizes the person (“What I notice is you doing the rejecting”).

“Oh I care, it is just I recognize them where you are incapable.”
JAP, you are misinterpreting him not running from facts like you do, as not recognizing them.

Perhaps, but I like it too (Oops, I slipped on a bar of Irish Spring commercial as I was writing there.)
    .
I think that while you are correct that it leaves open an intentional dis understanding of what he wrote; it is not always a writer’s chore to close every possible loophole at the expense of florid writing.
    .
Of course, I just write a lot. I don’t claim to write well. But I do like to change up the language now and again. Some would say that I am to language what Irish Spring is to subtle fragrance.

I’m interested in grammar, but I’m not a purist, and certainly not a member of the grammar police. Generally, whatever is in use is correct (within certain limits of intelligibility). That’s how language changes; and there’s no point trying to keep it from changing. I’m a little on the conservative side in my own usage, but when it comes to what other people write, I tend towards the libertarian.

Now here’s a question for you — do you allow “which” in restrictive clauses? Can you say “The car which was parked in the no-parking zone”? Or do you insist on “that”? I allow “which”, but I find that a lot of editors don’t like it.
