Deploying the razor-sharp wit and incisive take-no-prisoners satire characteristic of his generation, Gen Xer Ted Rall has become one of the most widely read editorial cartoonists in America. Twice the winner of the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award and a Pulitzer Prize finalist, Rall's work has appeared in hundreds of newspapers, as well as such magazines as Time, Newsweek, Fortune and MAD. He is also the author of 15 books, including several graphic novels and political polemics about Central and South Asia.

The Taliban are terrorists. The American Government are terrorists with drone (and who are, apparently, just as bad at targetting Bad Guys without killing lots of innocents).

Agreed. Especially putting the cocktail in O’s hand!

Drone warfare (like any other kind of warfare against civilians) is sick and deranged. Rall is just the messenger.

Rall is taking this in the totally wrong direction.

The strip is a good combo of funny and disturbing — the best kind. RE: the cocktail, just ten minutes ago I was looking at the picture of Obama and Romney in tuxes with cocktails yucking it up at the Al Smith banquet. So yeah, reality can be disturbing and funny at the same time.

With an effing COCKTAIL IN HIS HAND? You gotta be kidding me, Mr. Rall! I know that you despise the drone strikes, and I’m with you on this most of the time, I too would prefer trials and the truth out in the open, but I really don’t think the President is that cavalier about ending someones life!

This is sick but funny. Isn’t that usually the essence of Rall? And yes it’s exaggerated and unrealistic. They would actually wait until she was out of the ambulance, on the gurney going into the hospital. And the Prez would have a smoke of some kind in his hand rather than a drink.

I think Ted’s message is that the drone attacks do just as much collateral damage as the directed terror attacks are doing. In a sense, it’s kind of pointing out that she had just as much chance of being hit by us as the Taliban.
You can replace Obama with whoever may be President at any time we have used military force that injured or killed civilians, but the added irony I think Mr. Rall points out is that this one has a Nobel Peace Prize in his office.

By all accounts, what the Taliban did was dead stupid. By targeting this young lady, they have galvanized more of the population of the Middle East against them. Rall is off the mark here. Obama would not take out the ‘poster child’ against the Taliban. And what’s the deal with the cocktail? Obama doesn’t care?

Remember that in the late ‘50s early ’60s we killed little black children for wanting an education in this nation!
.
Mothers and fathers lined up and spat on the little black children as they walked up to that school in Little Rock, Arkansas.
.
In this country it is not exceptional any day to pick up a newspaper and read of a terrible murder of a young person just because they are gay.
.
I do understand Ted’s direction in this toon, but I do think it is a false equivalency. We as individuals have the capacity to be as barbaric as anyone. Our government has killed millions of Iraqis of all ages for no reason other than that there were in Iraq at the wrong time! SOMEONE should have to be brought to account for crimes committed in our name!
.
I agree.
.
Just like I agree that, even though I like him and his politics, Bob Kerry did a terrible thing in Thanh Phong. By all rights he should be prosecuted for war crimes, Just like the Nazis are hunted down for theirs.
.
But if I had the chance, I’d vote for Bob Kerry in the senate race.
.
Call it cognitive dissonance and then praise Ted Rall for not having it. Call it hypocrisy on my part… Guilty.
.
If Ted Rall is like me, then he recognizes that there is a great amount of holding one’s nose and hopefully working towards a better day! His method of working towards that is to hold up what makes the stink that forces us to hold our individual noses as we try to improve the collective.
