Bring all of our troops home from overseas now. Close all overseas and most domestic bases. Employ the troops, and the currently jobless, in good union jobs rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure. (Remember the I-35W bridge in Minneapolis?) Bring back the 75% tax rate, with no loopholes, on the multimillionaires and billionaires that was in effect during the JFK and LBJ administrations. Tell the corporations that if they want the privilege of selling to people in the USA they should have their official corporate addresses in the USA and not some offshore island where there are no taxes.

I forgot that the President determines how much the Corporate Thugs pay people. Shoot! This recession could be over in no time. All Obama has to do is say “Hey, big corporations: Pay people more, and oh—hire more people too!” What a lazy jerk that guy is for not saying those words to Big Business.

I think “higher pay” in the cartoon referred to soldiers.

Yesterday I saw a re-usable grocery bag sold by the USO to support the USO. The bag had printed: ‘70 yr anniversary- until they ALL come home’.
70 yrs later and we still have soldiers in the field? 70 yrs later they ain’t NEVER comin’ home. Democrat or Republican, they are clearly never coming home.

It would be nice if the USA would get out of the war business, and I do mean business, now. It would save us over $1 trillion a year to start.

It would indeed be nice, but we can’t even get out of the land mine business:

Clark Kent, my own platform is to close all the overseas bases (well, MOST of them) and REOPEN a lot of the in-country ones. It’d be good for the economy. (One small town near where I grew up pretty much died when the local Air Force base was closed.)
Demobilizing too many career soldiers would cause a labor glut (more than we already have), and maintaining the standing army at home (even a LARGE one) is a lot cheaper than maintaining one spread throughout the world, and less of a hardship on the families.
Ultimately, I’d like to see our domestic military bases staffed primarily by rotating members of the Reserves and National Guard (with a small number of full-time personnel for training and maintenance). If, instead of (or maybe in addition to) reporting for one weekend a month, Reservists and Guards served one full month every year, we could cut down on military costs without a substantial loss of “readiness.”

Obama involved us with a war in Libya, he’s backing the Al-Qaeda connected Rebels in their attempt to overthrow a Dictator who has been in power Since that Crook Richard Nixon has been President. Not one President from Nixon to Obama has done anything to push this Evil Man from Power.
By Obama backing The Rebels in Libya, in about 10 years they will thank us by killing us on our own Soil, before you say this will never happen, look at History:
In the1980’s Ronald Reagan called Terrorist Osama and hos Terrorist Army ‘Freedom Fighters’ when he told us we had to supply Osama with more Bullets when he ran out because Osama was fighting ‘The Evil Empire’ He also supported Terrorist Saddam while Saddam was killing his own citizens, during The Iraq/Iran War, and then RR turned around and Supported Iran in the same War.
How did Osama repay us? By killing thousands of our grandmothers, grandfathers, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, friends, coworkers, and First Responders on September 11, 2001, 20 years after RR supported Osama

@Clark Kent,
Do not raise taxes on the Rich if you set the Upper Tax Bracket at 75%, then your Tax Bracket will jump to 50%. Do you really want to pay 50% of your Income in Federal Income Taxes? My guess is you do not. What needs to be done is force the 47% of us who pay Zero Federal Income Taxes, and receive a refund for Thousands of Dollars each April is to force us to begin paying our fair share with zero loop holes, this means The Earned Income Credit goes away. If you do not agree with this, then you are not for everyone paying their fair share in Federal Income Taxes. The Rich already pay more than their fair share in Federal Income Taxes.
What you need to know about Warren Buffet: He gives away the vast majority of his fortunes to Charity, and then when April rolls around, he legally and rightfully deducts the funds he gave to Charity from his Total Gross Income which makes his Gross Income less than his Secretary’s Gross Income. If Mr. Buffet truly felt he was not being taxed fairly, he would never take advantage of the Charity Deductions and he would write and additional Check for Millions of Dollars.

@Tigger, please provide a reference for your claim that Reagan called Bin Laden a freedom fighter. Even the more liberal sites I read make no claim to the rise of Bin Laden and Al Qaida on the intelligence front until the early 90s (although many want to say Reagan directly contributed to Bin Laden’s rise because of the funding of the Afghani rebels, Bin Laden made his reputation by developing a relationship with Hamid Gul, a general in the Afghani resistance).

Tigger must have hit his head on the ceiling with all that bouncy-fun-fun-fun.
Most of the people who don’t pay income taxes have nothing left after FICA, Sales Taxes & non-essentials like putting a roof over their families heads & having food on the table.
I’m all in favor of paying those people better so they can “pay their fair share”. In the meantime, a slight raise in taxes on the wealthiest seems like a good way to balance the budget. Then maybe we can do something about the erosion of workers’ position in the eternal struggle for a decent wage.
