   I think the fact that America’s young men now realize that their government will allow crazy Muslim C.O.s to mass-murder them, then deny anything connected with Islamo-fascism even HAPPENED (the dude was yelling a Muslim religious battle-cry all during the shootings just by co-incidence, dontcha see), will be enough to discourage said young males from enlisting in the US military until, oh, at least 2013 or so.

   On the “plus” side, more girls will be inspired to join the military now, out of sympathy for both the shooter AND his victims. So maybe overall enlistements will only fall off by 40% or so until Osama gets booted out of the White House…

   Funny cartoon, though. :D

   What’s NOT funny is how easily the Draft would be re-instated if America’s young males DID decide that possibly being gunned down by their affirnative-actioned C.O.s–while simultaneously forbidden to carry weapons with which to defend themselves–wasn’t worth earning some extra chump change for college…

   Reinstate the old training proceedures and ‘fat, stupid and criminal’ wouldn’t matter. No one stays fat after 11 weeks of infantry basic. When I went through basic the ones that were under-educated were tutored and we had a couple of people that took the Army in place of jail time.

   The “all volunteer” Army has indeed considerably lowered “standards” over the years. While Guard and Reserves are put on the front lines, what is the “regular Army” up to? Well, Germany and Korea are still cold war objectives.

   Having been on the line, I’m very concerned that recruiting in now done in Spanish. Nothing against those willing to serve and gain citizenship, but I AM concerned whether OUR troops can communicate to each other when it hits the fan. This is more a comment on the barrel scraping, than on those fish in the barrel.

    I didn’t mean to detract attention away from Ted’s cartoon, since that’s what this comment section exists for.

    Yet since military recruitment and ‘militarism” are an integral theme of said comic, I thought the goings-on at Fort Hood deserved mentioning. And really, I think any young man who joins the military as it exists today–with political correctness placed in the forefront, rather than national defense–is naive. Young men need to go on strike against the US military, stop joining it, period. Let the feminists and homosexuals have it, since military policy is being geared at THEM. Let’s see how well they do at defending us. Hell, just our Navy alone can beat all the rest of the world’s navies COMBINED, it’s not like a “strike” by young men would lead to China or Russia conquering us overnight…

    Young men, stay away from the crazed nuthouse that the US military has become, until intelligent, adult men are someday given free reign again to FIX it…

Uhhh, well if Ted Rall was allowed his amusing fiction. By the way, I was under the impression that the application standards were raised to keep quality in the military. So do you have a beef or squab with that Ted? Don’t we want the best?

    scottwhatever. The gunman was not ANYONES’ C.O. He is a medical corps Major. Every “doctor in the military medical specialities” is a major. They START as Captains for G-D sake.

    The doctor part is especially hilarious. Yeah doc, way to GO, buddy! Why wait for your fellow muslims to pump bullets into our troops in Afghanistan when you can just do it YOURSELF, right here on US soil! “Allahu akbar”, and all that…

    You made a good point about rank, though. It obviously needs rethinking. Why make doctors Captains, Majors, etc when all it does is cheapen the entire purpose BEHIND the ranks? What doctor ever leads troops into battle? Where are all the war plans devised by doctors? Why are they “majors” AT ALL? Someone in today’s PC military obviously watched too much M.A.S.H as a little girl…

    I think our troops would be just fine if no one above the rank of Corporal ever worked on them. Again, cheapening the ranks only leads to increased disrespect of the ranking system itself…

    Point remains: our military has a “Major” problem going on. And the bulk of it can be traced directly to “PC” thinking and policies, which have no place in an institution which cannot function in reality using policies based on make-believe fantasies..

    The most dangerous “officer” in the Army is a Captain trying to make field grade- let your guys take all the risks, you get the oak leaf. “Butter bars” are sometimes as dangerous, because they’re still stupid, and haven’t been weeded.

    Doctors already have years of graduate study, which is why they come in at higher rank.

    Yes, usually they fix the wounds, not cause them. They direct medical teams, not combat units. Most military doctors I know don’t throw their rank around as they are well aware of their shortcomings as military officers. It is also a status and a pay incentive to attract physicians into the military by giving a rank of Captain.

    What the Bible says and what people DO are two different things and yes, the majority of mass murderers in the US would claim to be Christian or at the very least to have been brought up in a Christian environment. Jim Jones, Jeffrey Dahmer. Scott, I don’t think you understand how rank works in the military. If no one above the rank of corporal works on the wounded, they are doomed. Doctors are ranked that highly for a reason and they are commissioned, not enlisted. If you’re saying that they shouldn’t give doctors commissions, well, I think most doctors would turn down military service altogether.
