Obama just made Our Man Hamid an offer he couldn’t refuse, lest he “lose his head” so to speak.

Nice little sinecure ya got there, Hamid! Be a shame if something were to, er, happen to it, eh?

“I get it! I get it!”

Good luck imposing Democracy onto a fractured, tribal nation-state which at best only pretends to give a turd about what the west calls “civilization.”

Why doesn’t the Star Trek “Primary Directive” ever get tried? I mean, some cultures just BEG for it, and Afghanistan is one imo.

Just leave them the Hell ALONE. If we’re there to fight Taliban, do so. Make it clear to the Afghanis to just stay AWAY from US troops. “You leave us alone, we’ll leave YOU alone. You mess with us, we’ll mess with you and everyone around you.”

Those people would actually understand that approach. Well, most of them. The ones that don’t are just part of the problem and should be dealt with as such.

Barring that, declare “victory” by claiming the Taliban has been routed and PULL OUT.

I never compared Iraq to vietnam, because it WASN’T.

Afghanistan, however… yeah. It has ‘nam written all OVER it.

Plus Osama–that idiot in the White House, not the one hiding in a cave somewhere–can’t handle a war of any type. He’s worse than LBJ. I’d rather pull out of Afgahnistan now than watch Osama get a lot of young men killed while he sits inside the Oval Office waving one finger in the air while the other is wedged so far up his butt you can’t see his wrist…

Scott: Repeatedly calling Obama “Osama” is about as clever as the people who insist on always writing “Micro$oft”.

Hm… Doesn’t “fractured, tribal” exclude any notion of “nationstate?” Because the latter implies some sort of unified/pacified people that, despite their differences locally, at the national level feel they have something in common which is worth fighting for.

Come to think of it, the best way to turn Afghanistan into a “nationstate” would be to wage all-out war, kill more Afghans and bomb them to Kingdom Come. That would certainly unite them against their common enemy, the US of A.

But I like the option to LEAVE THEM ALONE. However, as long as there’s going to be an oil-gas pipeline across Afghanistan, the west will never leave the Afghanis alone.

Btw, the last succesful American warpresident was FDR. “Desert Storm” wasn’t much of a war besides if Bush I had in any way discouraged Saddam to invade Kuwait, Saddam would not have done what he did. Because Saddam, despite all the US propaganda, was no fool.

That’s a RUSSIAN pipeline across Afghanistan, there, audie.

And FDR handed over all of Eastern Europe to Stalin, who then gang-raped their peoples in much the same fashion as Mao later slaughtered his own homies.

Ronald Reagan would have been 10x the WW2 President FDR was, under equal circumstances.

Ronald Reagan was an actor. He PLAYED being “President.”

Based on what he did in office, trading arms to the Iranians to get weapons smuggled to his beloved Nicaraguan contra terrorists, in World War II he would have traded B-17s to the Nazis to get Iranian oil. And you, Scott, would have cheered him on and made snarky comments about all those lies about the Jewish “final solution.”

How come you didn’t urge us to get out of Afghanistan while Alfred E. Bush was in charge? Could it be that your politics trump reality? Your asinine comments about the fate of Eastern Europe are strongly indicative that you don’t bother with history when you have Saint Rush to inform you of the REAL FACKS. If you’ve nothing to say, you shouldn’t say it. Capiche?

Scott- UNOCAL- Karzai’s group was putting in the pipeline across Afghanistan, they ain’t hardly “Russian”. Wake up or shut up.

Don’t tell me what I’d think “nemesis.” Your grasp on reality is obviously not much better than most people unhappily confined to rooms with padding on the walls…

Oh my god Scott, You are so stupid… sorry, misinformed. Please read a history book and stop getting in the way of people trying to have a conversation based on facts.

I suppose Reagan would have made the “honorable” move and declared war on Russia as soon as the Russians got through beating Germany on the Eastern front. Only the insane right in America would see WW2 as a war that Wasn’t long enough.

TONE IT DOWN?? You guys took little Scottie to the woodshed and this is some very entertaining reading! Scott… get some xanax. It’s an anxiety medication that will help you get past the over-reaction problem you’re having. Your whole world must be a living h e l l and it is very likely that a chemical imbalance could be adjusted with the proper medication. “It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.”
