In other words the tribes don’t want the benefits of oil riches, they like life as it is just fine.

Far too often the “benefits of oil riches” end up going to a few hopelessly corrupt and thoroughly Westernized (is that redundundant?) officials in the capita, while the tribal people (who’ve lived self-sufficiently and not all that uncomfortably) for generations are shoved off their land and ultimately have to take back-breaking jobs at starvation wages. “Development” in Africa (that is, extraction of resources by the West) has generally not been particularly beneficial to the people.

That may be exactly true, and if not, they had better think through what modernization could bring them.
I figured this strip especially might bring our cynicism out. Let’s let this one be, guys. Those were simpler times: more idealism, albeit not necessarily better follow-through on that idealism.

Wishing all tribemates a very Healthy and Happy New Year!
Please don’t drink too much and then drive, and no firing your weapons into the air at midnight either!

Thank you Katman! Happy New Year to you, too. I never go out drinking on “amateur night”. Beside that, I gotta 5K race first thing in the AM.
