   By definition, flora is a word of Latin origin referring to Flora, the goddess of flowers. The term can refer to a group of plants or to bacteria. Flora is the root of the word floral, which means pertaining to flowers. Fauna can refer to the animal life or classification of animals of a certain region, time period, or environment. The term is also of Latin origin, and in Roman mythology, Fauna was the sister of Faunus, a good spirit of the forest and plains. Sorry I had to do that.

   It seems to me that there are occasional anachronisms in the strip related to exactly when it is supposed to be taking place.
   The Sunday strip is clearly modern-day, but the daily strip appears to be roughly 1940’s (though references to WWII are rare?).
   Anyway, my latest complaint is about Monday’s reference to helicopters. I don’t think there would have been reliable helicopters in Nairobi in the 40’s and maybe not even in the 50’s. But it seems to me that any later than that and Ivan would be using a different machine gun.
   Correct me if I’m wrong; I can take it!

   “Well, you aren’t wrong,” as Iron Man said to Captain America. :) The dailies are NOT meant to be kept in sync, either in plot line or in period with the Sundays.
   
   About the type and availability of military hardware in the dailies, you got me. The strip mislocated the Primeval Forest relative to Nairobi, although in fact there is one northwest of that city.

    So what if those two remaining soldiers heard the shots? If Ivan saved rounds he could easily take them down as well. Basil is the sneaky, nervous type, not willing to take big risks; while Ivan is the “brute force”of the duo….mow ‘em down, take the map, and away we go! Yeah, too bad Ivan doesn’t write this 1960s strip!
    The more “modern” Sunday strip really bites a big one,but at least it’s in color! :)> IvanGowa!!

    Since we only have one life form—euglena that is in two variates. One with chlorophyll and one without. Chloro is the Latin for green. We don’t have a world for something that combines plant and animal. But we could make up one.

    I see no evidence that this strip is taking place in the 1940’s but instead in the 1960’s when it was drawn.

    We got some jungle in S. Texas you would need a machete to get through. So your definition is too narrow. Jungle is from a word taken from Sanskrit for “tangle.”
