Baseball is a game that requires the fans actually to understand it and pay attention. Unlike basketball, which primarily requires the fans to spend the whole game listening to very expensive shoes squeak, or hockey, which consists of watching people get paid to skate around waving sticks until a fight breaks out, or football, in which twelve sides of beef on each team collide violently over a.nd over again to little purpose, baseball is an exquisitely tuned balance of skill, power, finesse, mind and endurance that requires the fans to rise to the occasion rather than slumping back in mindless torpor. Let those of lower capacity sink to the level of those other so-called sports; the fans capable of appreciating baseball rightly treasure the one game that brings out the best in them.

Hockey, basketball and soccer are all basically the same game. See thirty seconds and you see every game ever played.

I’d rather watch grass grow than watch baseball. Oh, wait, when I watch baseball, I AM watching grass grow!
(Full disclosure: I don’t watch hockey, basketball, or soccer either.)

Baseball is a thinking man’s game that pits the ability of the individual against a team of nine. It reminds me of the line from Star Wars about Obi wan-Kenobi’s light saber, “A more elegant weapon for a more civilized age.”

    1-football has 11 on a side, not 12.
2-Hockey players are far better athletes than all except for Soccer players
3-Hockey is a great sport, and great exercise.
I played amateur senior hockey for almost 15 years, I loved it. BTW, in amateur hockey there are very few fights, but a lot of skill. Try skating around, looking for a little puck and then hitting it with a stick, all while keeping your balance.
Now the NHL is a different game, but from what I have seen in the EU (last time more than 10 years ago) they play hockey much like the guys in my league played, with skill rather than brute force

Just try to hit a round ball with a round bat when the ball is coming at you more than 90 miles per hour. You will readily learn what REAL skill is.

Football has 12 to a side if you’re in the Canadian Football League.

My problem with baseball is that players do too many time-wasting activities which has stretched a nine-inning game to sometimes way past three hours! In the old days, a nine-inning baseball game finishes somewhere between 2 hours 15 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes; maybe strict enforcement of time limits between pitches, a bigger strike zone call, and forcing batters to stay in the batter’s box would cut the time of the game to make it a lot more palatable to modern viewers.
