The Astros need to stay the course though. If Crane is willing to spend to fill-in the roster gaps that will result even if their farm system attains the top spot then their fans will be very happy in 3-5 years.

MLB screwed up this year. Instead of moving the Lastros to the American League, they should have moved the Brewers back to the AL where they belong.

I don’t know about that. I’m not much of a baseball fan and I got the reference right away. Actually I think this is a pretty good strip.

Dear Ashburn, agree. By the way, the three youngest teams in baseball are the Astros, the Braves, and the Nationals. Astros may be ok in a couple of years.

Agreed. The Astros in the AL just seems weird.

If the Astros can do what the Tampa Bay Rays did, and spend the money developing their farm teams, then they will be in good shape in three to five years. The fans just have to be patient.
Tampa is in the toughest division in baseball but hold their own, not because they have a lot of money, but because they know how to develop players. They took a page out of the old Red Soxs and Yankees play book and spent the money where it should be spent, not on prima donnas.
The Sox are beginning to realize that they have to go back to that system if they want to have any shot at the fall.
Unfortunately, the Yankees still think you can win by throwing a lot of money at over-the-hill super stars who are too tired to compete by Sept..
