That’s essentially what the scam here is.
What you’re referencing is called the “placebo effect”. Placebo is Latin for “I will please.” Do-nothing pills, or placebos, are sometimes given to some subjects in medicine trials in place of the product being tested in order to measure the effect of the real medicine on those who get it. Unfortunately, sometimes just the idea in the patient’s head that they’re getting medicine has some real effect.
