    Would it surprise anybody to learn that French cooking started out precisely as ghodawful as modern English cooking (same source, after all), and only began to approach decency after the nobility started importing cooks from Italy in the 14th and 15th Centuries?

    If the blue plate special is set, the cooks know that the chicken gets the bechamel and the green beans get the hollandaise.

    Er, does anybody put hollandaise on grilled chicken? Ever?
