Sports is Tank McNamara’s beat, his livelihood. A former professional football player who’s now a TV sportscaster, Tank McNamara reports on the breaking sports stories of the day: the hot players and angry coaches, the pending lawsuits and drawn-out strikes, the constant roar and ever-increasing hype that make organized sports one of the world’s most lucrative businesses.

The perfect guy thing. Explosion and fire! Too bad it’s too true!

charcoal, a bit of lighter fluid and some liquid oxygen in a Dewar flask (needs a heat sut, too) light the lighter fluid and pour on LOX. presto, charcoal ready to grill in 20 SECONDS (of course, if it’s a cheap sheet metal grill, the resulting plume generates enough heat to MELT the bottom…but whatever…)

there are others – “starting charcoal with LOX” google it

This is funny, if it weren’t so true. Maybe some knucklehead will read this and realize he needs to defrost his bird, thus averting a calamity.
Then again, there’s always some jackass who’ll try it just for the thrill of incinerating himself !

@Robert Nowall
Bill Hinds still writes “Cleats” and it is carried on this (Gocomics) site.

Well, the oil might take to the sky, and when falling on the hot, burst into flame, but will an oil flame propagate faster than oil falls?

@jollyjack
Not entirely true: Cleats still runs on Gocomics but it has been in rerun mode since Nov 26, 2010. The last new strip ran on Oct 31, 2010.

Guys, I’m glad to see Cleats get some props. I miss it too. It is in reruns but since so few people saw it while it ran it’s like a new strip. It’s about the parent-kid experience of sports.

I absolutely love “Cleats.” I count it right up there with “Cul de Sac,” as both are somehow accurate and sweet at the same time. And now I read both reruns religiously, because even the second time around, they’re wonderful!

Needs a little lighter fluid in the oil. Then that turkey will blow up real good.

Once again, I’m glad to see the Chances getting more panel time.
