   except that only a very few families of drop outs are on the dole.
   OTOH, if you just listen to what the republicians say, rather than checking for yourself, you will continue to be ignorant about the problem which is 30% of kids drop out of HS nationwide every year.
   and how about this. Over 50% of incoming college freshmen have to take remedial classes in math and english before they can start taking college level classes.
   Or this. Find an 1880s HS graduation test on the internet, see how good you do. Then compare it to what kids today get tested on. I tried to take the test, totally failed, even on the subject I have been taking classes in for 40 years(yes, fourty years) history.
   then there is this. We are not even in the top 20 of countries as far as HS knowledge goes. In math, english-even countries whose native language is not english score better than we do-and science. our K-12 schools are failing us. and I for one do not think it is some vast right wing conspiracy to get rid of all public schools and replace them with private schools. Altho granted, that is what they want
