From IMDB: It Happens Every Spring (1949) “A scientist discovers a formula that makes a baseball which is repelled by wood. He promptly sets out to exploit his discovery.”

frumdebang. I remember watching that movie several years ago. It was, like all the old B&W movies, pretty good.
At least it had a plot, people talked and nothing got blown up. Maybe thats why I like old movies better.

At the pro level there is very little difference in physical talent but an enormous difference in mental (confidence).

Ezcept for the basic terms and rules, I know nothing about baseball because I’ve always hated it ever since the Yankees kept beating the Dodgers in the 50’s, so I hate the Yankees. I never understood spitballs or pine tar or any of those expressions. Oh, yes, I know curve balls, sliders, change-ups and fast balls, but what does pine tar or spit do to the ball? Why are they mortal sins?

Give it a few years, and you’ll be able to build on it. I’ve been going to Mead since the 1970’s, and it’s lower than ever.

This strip is reminding me of Bull Durham (sorry, “It Happens Every Spring” is before my time) when Susan Sarandon convinces Nuke LaLouche to wear a garter belt when he’s pitching. And, since it works, Crash tells him to stick with it. “You’ve gotta respect a streak…”

The Civil War, like It Happens Every Spring, was before my time. Yet, I know about them both.
