Several of them are basket cases due to Libertarian ideas of “free enterprise.” Think Chile and Argentina. Right wing govts ruined them not Left.

You might want to reconsider. Chile dumped socialism and is doing much better.
Argentina on the other hand continued with socialism and socialist-like polices and is currently messed up like a soup sandwich.
In fact, just two years ago one of Argentina’s naval ships was repossessed by Ghana…

I recall some Biblical story about a collection being taken up for the sick in a town; Christ was there. A local, wealthy man donated a tidy bit to the cause. Another frail woman tossed in a few coins. As the Rich man was bragging to his friends about how much he gave, Jesus went over and embraced the woman. The man complained that he gave much more than she. Jesus replied “You gave money you could easily afford. She gave all she had!”

This may be where the new pope gets his “ideas”.

While this is true, the widow gave all she had out of compassion and the rich gave out of his abundance, BOTH of them gave rather than having been forced to give up a specified amount by the government so that the government could then allocate a percentage to “administrative” costs, a percentage to transportation costs, a percentage to R&D and so on until the funds given to the “poor” were reduced to a small percent of the “required gift”.

One must always look at the entire picture.

Remember that he also was ok with the anointing of his feet with expensive oil rather than having that sum given over to the “poor box”.

    Why was that?

I’m not religious, and normally I don’t care much about the Pope because he’s the leader of a very conservative and corrupt organization. Having said this: Pope Francis seems to be such an exception that I have to jump over my own shadow and say: I like that guy! Let’s hope that he can actually get something done against the church’s bloated and solidified establishment.

Social equality is a state of affairs in which all people within a specific society or isolated group have the same status in certain respects. At the very least, social equality includes equal rights under the law, such as security, voting rights, freedom of speech and assembly, property rights, and equal access to social goods and services. However, it also includes concepts of health equity, economic equity and other social securities. It also includes equal opportunities and obligations, and so involves the whole of society.
Social equality requires the absence of legally enforced social class or caste boundaries and the absence of discrimination motivated by an inalienable part of a person’s identity. For example, sex, gender, race, age, sexual orientation, origin, caste or class, income or property, language, religion, convictions, opinions, health or disability must not result in unequal treatment under the law and should not reduce opportunities unjustifiably.

^Far fewer would die if they’d go back to making plowshares instead of weapons (that cost trillions, and don’t work.).

True, but you’ve not mentioned that the same man who told this parable also told people to stop complaining about taxes and just pay them.
