Stuie forgets, the whole meta data concept, the 10s of thousands of wrongly register voters now that some 35 thousand voters were from other states.

Yep, you answered it. That is exactly what the conservatives did to get as many votes as they did! After all they are still in the 19th century when the Republican Party were the Progressives and Liberals (ala Lincoln) Many Republicans today are still frustrated that Lincoln was behind setting a whole race free. After all “they were much better off as slaves.”

Why don’t we hear much more about your alleged, and absolutely false by the way, double voting scandal? Because, for one thing, as the head of North Carolina’s board of elections said, more investigation was needed. Another reason is do you realize the conditions they set for identifying double voting was intentionally very vague and wide? Same name, same birthday, same LAST FOUR digits of the Social Security number, out of 315 million people there are bound to be multiple double fitting this wide category.

Think about it, just in my local phone book there are 3 people with my same first and last name. I know there are more but this is just with listed phone numbers out of roughly 100,000 people. What about in a pool of hundreds of millions of people? Or for that matter, just on LinkedIn there are over 4,400 unique profiles for my same first and last name. My first name is somewhere in the top 15, my last name is somewhere in the top 20, so how many John Does or Jim Smiths do you think there are?

And out of nearly 1 billion possible Social security number combinations, how many times do you think the last 4 numbers repeat? Here’s a hint, it’s roughly 100,000 times for the exact same number such as 4587 or 6571. And they could only find 765 with the same last four numbers as another identical first and last name who voted in a different state. So if each combination of the same last 4 numbers could occur 100,000 times, and there’s 1000 different combinations of the last 4 numbers, that is a lot of possible false matches for a very politically motivated North Carolina republican government to make, and they could only muster 765. Remember, N.C. passed onerous voter suppression laws last year and are being challenged in court. If they can at least make the appearance, forget about any proof, of voter fraud, then they can bolster their lie filled defense of their voter suppression law in court.

Most of these people were people who voted in person. In fact, the election board’s executive director, Kim Westbrook Strach claimed that 81 deceased North Carolinians apparently voted in 2012 as well. She did at least admit some appear to have submitted absentee ballots prior to their death, but then she offers dubious figures of those who had allegedly died at a time when it would no be possible for them to have cast their absentee ballot. And remember, none of these so-called voter ID laws, in effect voter suppression laws address absentee ballot fraud.

So there are enough red flags here for any rational person with any amount of integrity to agree, more investigation into this report is needed. And for any credible news source to pass on reporting the rumor before it is proven true, unless of course it fits their ideology and meme.

From an admittedly likely liberal source, (and others too) North Carolina Policy Watch, The Progressive Pulse I was able to find out who did the cross-checking for North Carolina to be Kris Kobach, Secretary of State in Kansas. A long-time Republican political operative, the architect of legislation cracking down on immigrants in Arizona and elsewhere, as well as severe voting restrictions. And Kobach is quoted as saying, *“Experience in the crosscheck program indicates that A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER of APPARENT DOUBLE VOTES ARE FALSE POSITIVES and not double votes. Many are the result of errors voters sign the wrong line in the poll book, election clerks scan the wrong line with a barcode scanner, or there is confusion over the father/son voters (Sr. and Jr.).”

Another good read on why this “scandal” is nothing but hot air and a CON-servative manufactured crisis is The Institute for Southern Studies, Facing South “After initial hysteria, back-pedaling over NC voter fraud claims”

So really, why is it we’ve heard so little about this? Because there isn’t anything there, at least not yet and nothing that can be proven. But then again, when did facts or the truth ever get in the way of the republican agenda? Or any political agenda for that matter? Why have we heard so little about this? Because it simply is not true.

It is so much fun disproving the reDUMBlicans’ fantasies and falsehoods. You’d think they would at least make them a challenge. Something that required more than a very quick internet search to prove false. But then again, the weak minds don’t bother to verify, they simply trust. You’d think they’d at least know their patron saint’s buzz-phrase and follow it.

    .
Media bias. Which is why Dan Quayle misspelling “potato” became part of culture while Shiela Jackson and the 400 year old constitution and the flag on Mars, along with Obama’s 57 states barely (perhaps not even mention in the mainstream media) mentioned.
    .
That same media when rape allegations were credible enough against Bill “pants optional” Clinton quietly looked the other way. I guess we need to be grateful that his victim wasn’t brutalized like Monica Lewinsky.

Jack cites the National Review wing-nut zine as “proof” of voter fraud, is refuted with facts, and Echo jumps in with a schoolyard argument along the lines of “oh yeah, well what about Monica Lewinksi!?”

Been working long hours all week, but things haven’t changed much on these boards.

Thank you Mechanic and Martens, for continuing the reasoned refutations of the knee-jerk right-wing talking points. Most won’t believe the truth (backed up with reason, civility, and empirical data) for various reasons – but I believe that, foremost among those reasons is they actually have a need to vilify people they have conveniently labeled as “liberals”… and actually don’t know why. Maybe for the same reason they flip off BMW drivers, I dunno.
    .
There have been some horrendous wildfires in SD County this week, and people have been helping each other and banding together in the face of a common threat. I personally know a curmudgeonly person (I’ll call him Zack, a real Obama-hater) who was evacuated from the Cocos fire, and taken in (along with his animals), by a “liberal” pub-mate he’d been antagonizing for a long time. It’ll be interesting to see if Zack’s nasty arguments will mellow, given an implicit awareness of the fragility of our environment and our need to support one another.
    .
Oh crap. But that’s socialism to care for ourselves and environment, isn’t it?
