There is no making the NRA look pretty. I was a long time member until they started telling me how to vote and to be prepared to fight the tyrannical government that wanted to take my guns away.

Nice argument there, antique. Not a single fact, just name calling.

This is my 4th posting of this msg, though this cartoon is the one most appropriate for what I am asking of you.
Having used Fox News as a reference recently, I feel less guilty than usual for suggesting readers go to Dailyshow.com and watch the first 15 minutes of Wednesday night’s show.
Mr. Stewart’s comedy was forced as he presented a compelling story about the NRA and the ATF. I spent an hour after watching the show and was able to confirm most of it from objective sources. I am angry that I have to hear this information from a comedy show when its importance on the debate raging in Congress is so immediate.
I have always tried to use objective sources when making my points and ask that you be patient with me this one time. I would not waste your time if I didn’t find this info so compelling.
I will copy and paste this msg where the cartoon is appropriate. I’m going to play with my grand baby tomorrow and have to pack.
    Respectfully,
    C.

“he presented a compelling story about the NRA and the ATF

Yes, by exerting their powerful ‘influence’ on legislators, the NRA has suppressed ATF data, suppressed CDC gun violence studies, and de-funded gun regulation enforcement for 15 years.

Then they go forth and repeat relentlessly the talking-points “gun violence numbers down” and “10,000 regulations already on the books” etc etc.

    Here’s an article describing this:

How Congress Blocked Research on Gun Violence

The NRA “elects” its leadership the same way the Soviet and Chinese communists “elected” their Politburos.

One honorable thing GHW Bush did, was submitting his resignation from the NRA, and his statements very well summarized the organization, at least the leadership.

    @corzak

    Thank you Corzak,
This was not one of the links I found, though protectpolice.org had a good example of what Mr. Stewart was saying about Mr. Tiahrt’s work to cripple the ATF.
When Mr. Stewart showed the video the ATF sends to gun sellers advising them, I felt sadness for the ATF dept. They were pleading for cooperation while admitting there was nothing they could do to compel sellers to help them.
Once again, my apologies to conservative readers who frankly, deserve better sources if these points are to be proved. I felt that for a news item of this importance, we ALL deserved better sources of reporting.
    Respectfully,
    C.

quit worring about the guns and get back to the budget. That is going to be the cause of more deaths than a gun.

The NRA exists for one purpose only: to protect the profits of the gun and ammunition manufacturers. The congressional toadies that back them do so because they are paid well to do so. The sad sacks above, who mindlessly parrot the NRA’s talking points are just prime examples of how well propaganda works. Sometimes, every once in a while, one of these parrots manages to sound vaguely intelligent, but, looking at some of the gun nut comments above, one can see that it’s VERY unusual. They just sound like angry 9 year old boys who’ve been told to stop torturing ants.

Well “rightisright”, your comment thankfully is opposed by the fact most feel the NRA ad repugnant.
It’ll take a lot more than lipstick to make this pig presentable and it’s followers. I too left the NRA long ago due to their tactics.

There is only one problem with Stuart Carlson’s cartoon. The word “Democrat” is not a three-letter word beginning with an “n”. I guess the school he went to not only failed to teach truthfulness, it failed to teach spelling.

I don’t give a rodent’s hind end about the NRA, but I do object to government telling me what I can and cannot do. (yeah yeah, I know, does not mean I get to kill people) In any case, what I’m seeing here has a whole lot more to do about riding your own little hobby horses rather than the actual issue, EH?
