Editorial cartoonist Stuart Carlson has the unique ability to look at current events and bring them from that far away place where news is made and into the homes and daily lives of his readers. Yup!

Mr O. laid him out pretty good. But Mitt does himself no favors by not saying how he’s going to do anything, just that he knows how to do it!

Completely off-topic, but my husband elucidated me as to the internet version of what a troll is…a word I have seen often on these political cartoon discussions. People who post things just to make others angry because no one knows who they are, especially if it does not fit their point of view. I did look it up and now know that there can be more definitions. However, I thought it was just a term people were using to disparage others when cursing is not acceptable.
I have a guess for five people who are “trolls” so far (not you Dred – who is the only person on this discussion board so far). Do others have a guess as to how many there are here? Am I over-shooting or under? Or do you think there are none here?

Complete case of trolling.

Megan: you already got a “twofer”! There will be more!
Looking at the ‘toon, and all the “steamroller” type after the first “debate”, it was satisfactory to see President Obama come back this time, and yes, run the wrecking ball over Mitt’s “arguments” and falsehoods. Yes, “get the transcript” became a powerful phrase. It should apply to many of the Republican arguments and claims during Mr. Romney’s campaign. The flips, the flops, the outright blatant lies, and attempts to “bully” not so much the opponents ("I’ll bet you $10,000! Wanna’ bet?) in all his appearances, on TV and on the campaign trail, his real effort is to bully the public, and “bull” is his primary weapon.

You are on the right track. Look at the ones who use invective, and are never satisfied with anything, the ones who favor opinion over provable facts, the ones who feel compelled to post negetive and mean remarks even when they have nothing to say.

You could probably fill a whole binder with facts on trolls.

Well, this time I watched it live on CNN and I heard quite a few good points by the President and not a lot of denial from Gov. Romney. It clearly was a win, but I wouldn’t call it a K.O. by a long way. That’s what gotten the Dems in trouble in the first place, they thought they were the best! My advice: don’t concentrate on the last debate, the Gov. will come back with all he has. Finish him off beforehand.

NOW would be the time for Senator Reid to unveil his source for the 0% tax rate claim, NOW would be the time for any other October surprises (remember early voting…). NOW would be the time for the Super-PACs to attack him – always fair, but never relenting. If you irritate him enough he might dig his own political grave in the last debate!

I guess the ZIT is a troll, but I think of him as a pus producer.

Another Willard the ChickenHawk ‘supporter’ that can’t think of anything good to say about him.

Trolls tell other people to shut up.

I fear President Obama’s victory was not quite a wrecking ball smashing Mr Romney’s arguments. CNN gave President Obama a slender majority of viewers who thought he won the debate, but said a large majority of viewers agreed that Mr Romney won on domestic economic issues, and these are much more important to the election.
I suspect the CNN analysis is not altogether insightful, but the debate was, at best, a narrow victory for President Obama (as opposed to his total loss in the first debate, often described as the debate where only one debater showed up, and it wasn’t President Obama).
The facts are elided over by both candidates, and for good reasons (more by Mr Romney than President Obama, again for good reasons).

There are about a dozen of them, although some of US are convinced that one or two may actually be the same person under a different name/avatar. You know who they are. They are generally cynical, demeaning and tell the obvious lies and never back up their claims, although some have resorted to posting links to nowhere of to sources that are definitely biased if not out right mendacious.
.
If you don’t like them or find them offensive, flag them. Generally I consider them to be ‘white noise’. If I post something by quoting what they say, it is not a reply to them so much as it is an opportunity to posts the real facts, always with links to back up the argument. For example 13978 people are subscribed to Stuart Carlson, but you might only see one or two dozen people posting to his cartoon on a given day. Just because all those 13978 do not post doesn’t mean they don’t see the cartoon or the posts, so if I go on a rant it is for the benifit of all the readers not just those who post or troll (although they can be quite offensive sometimes). Some of them are actually paid to troll, but I think the majority of them will be gone by January, when Obama is sworn in for his second term.

The number of people CNN polled for their little snap poll is not enough to be statistically signifigant

Nate Silver has some interesting thing to say about polls and polling samples in his recent posts:
