As a small business owner with 5 employees and dozens of contractors the 1099 thing is a red herring. It’ll take my accountant an extra 10 minutes to print out the forms, if that.

Yep - make up a silly name for it and hope people will rally around your opposition without reading what it really does. Surprised they didn’t refer to it as “Colonial Kenyancare for Muslims only” but then that would be too much spelling for their signs. Great for me, great for my kids, I think the plan is great. Almost puts us on a level with the rest of the civilized world.

I think the part that most people object to is the part that requires a US citizen to purchase a product from a private company. Doesn’t matter that there may be more than one company available, but self-insurance, even for the wealthy, is not allowed. Good, bad, or indifferent, it is illegal, and that seems to be a violation of several articles of the constitution. One wonders, too, why if these “good” features are so highly desired, that an enterprising insurance company hasn’t offered them for sale and swept away their competition by the hordes of people who would hasten to switch to that policy. Any thoughts on that?

It’s because insurance companies are there to make as much money as they can while paying out as little as they can. A good hard look at some of the bad-faith practices by the largest insurance companies and their financial balance sheets will show you why regulation is necessary.

The Republicans say “repeal and replace”. That’s just red meat to the base, to get ‘em worked up.

They don’t even believe that. The healthcare act will be adjusted, from time to time, as necessary to fit experience. And perhaps unfortuantely, ideology.

    • Courtesy of Republicans, by the way. They have demanded this ever since Hillary tried to pass national health care. The Single-payer system got shot down by misinformation and fear-mongering. “I don’t want government in my healthcare,” says the Medicare recipient.

@charliekane - Based on some of the views of these potential Republicans, their version of “health care reform” would deny gays coverage and force every woman to be monitored from conception to childbirth by the government to make sure she had a “live birth.”

I agree, get rid of it NOW…

…and replace it with single payer.

I agree, Jade. I also disagree with the Democrats’ use of emotional appeal based upon isolated incidents to portray those isolated incidents as the prevailing norm.

What they did not vcover is that the federral government’s medical programs deny coverage at a greater rate than private insurance does.

The provisions Carlson promotes as “wonderful” in the cartoon are going to cost Americans $BILLIONS.

“Obamacare” is not health care reform. It is a government siezure of the health care insurance industry and is designed as a prelude to the single payer (government) system currently being abandoned in Canada and Europe.

^ Remember that the healthcare law is not as originally intended. Ammendments 400+ were added if I recall, by the Republicans to keep the insurance companies happy. It is a start.

WE DO need single payer. As for “isolated incidents”, they are not isolated. Two family members dead because of “pre-existing” conditions. Several friends faced bankruptcy before they died. A friend who at the moment is being billed for care that Medicare only partially paid for and she has no family to help her. I know,, she shouldn’t have had the stroke with complications.
