I haven’t seen an actual, hard news piece of anybody saying they object to the SPEECH, just the stupid directions (the original set of instructions) to follow AFTER the speech! By hard news I mean who do they quote as objecting to the speech? I watched ABC World News last night do a report on this, and they had nothing of substance, but they did convey that it was right-wingers that didn’t want their kids to hear the speech, which is flat-out untrue. It helps every so often to check in with the lib media to see how they’re fooling people. Obviously it worked for Carlson.

All you folks on the left need to spend 12 months or so just getting your news from conservative sources, and listen for the FACTS they present (cuz I know you’ll hate their opinions) - then you’ll see how inaccurate the lib media really is.

    There’s a reason it’s called Faux News.

I know a few people who really are reacting this way. It has passed beyond any hint of sanity. Unfortunately, they are also the ones making endless amounts of noise, about every aspect of society that the administration tries to address. Kind of like ANancy. Surprised he hasn’t posted on this one already. Must be checking the tinfoil lining in his bunker.

sclark, all you folks on the right need to spend 12 months or so just getting straight news from legitimate sources and listen/read the FACTS (cuz I know you’ll hate any opinion not espoused on Faux) - then you’ll see how inaccurate the rabid right media really is.

And what’s “flat-out untrue” about saying right-wingers don’t “want their kids to hear the speech?”

I just listened to a parent give an interview on CNN saying “I’m a conservative and I disagree with his policies. I don’t want him talking to my children.” I just watched an interview with an Okla. Senator (Rep, natch) saying Obama is trying to remove local control from parents and school administrators by talking to children directly. (Gee, wonder if he said that when Reagan did it?)

Geeze, you rightos are too much!

INanity, do you not even READ the captions before you jump to a conclusion of the ‘toon’s point?

  9. Loco80

    Loco80 said, 2 months ago

I read the toon. Terrible case of profiling and stereotyping approximately half the population of the country. It is an easy trap to fall into, though. The very few extreme members of any group/party/nationality/religion/race do or say something so outrageous that media will broadcast it. Then these individuals, who were never accepted by their own (the group they WANTED to be a part of, but were outcasts because they did NOT represent the opinion of the group) are considered by the media and the public, as the spokesperson of the group. Far from the true representation.

  10. harleyquinn

    harleyquinnGenius_badge said, 2 months ago

The toon does point out how the left just loves the extremist. Center stage for the guys on the other side and back door pay off for theirs.
As for the speech? Well he wants to play the look over there game what ever. I will give him the benefit of the doubt. I mean they did drop the “What can I do for Obama” home work. So maybe someone out there might have a clue.
If he does start spouting off, well that is what is called a teachable moment.

Actually, I feel sorry for the kids. It must be sort of embarrassing when your parents say ” I don’t want no words from this preznit to touch my kids ears!”, I wonder what kind of world parents think their child will grow up in. Did you righties fiercely clap your hands over their little white ears when Bush/Cheney began to justify locking up American citizens? Did you point in horror at your television when it was revealed that we’d been wiretapped in violation of the f**cking constitution and then lied to about it? Nope.

Here’s an idea for all those who are terrified of having their child hear, um, the president of the U.S. talk about school: When your child gets home, buzzing about becoming a communist and stuff, just sit them down with some sugared snacks and let them see Glenn Beck’s rebuttal. The little tykes will be safe in no time.

Surely your family isn’t so fragile that you and your values can’t weather a “stay in school” speech by the president. Oh, wait. You are also the people who were so terrified that terrorists would steal your values after 9/11 that you gave up lots of your freedoms to (wait for it…) the president!! Know why? Terrorists are dark people. Our current president is too. Very very suspect and not values we want, right?

    Idiots.

    NoFearPupGenius_badge said, 2 months ago

Well, if we are going to critique posts; I would give ezdeb one half star out of five. It’s inflammatory rhetoric and is based on the strawman premise of ignorant, racist white people… The real issue is the appropriate place of government in our daily lives. While I think the fear IS over-blown; the more important point is that Americans do not like Federal-Centric control over their lives. And bear in mind that this is quite possibly a media-driven issue only; I wouldn’t combine right-wing radio-hype with the concern shown by average everyday Americans over just wh@t-the-H3ll their government is up to. Get over it, Libs and adapt to the wishes of the electorate, or suffer ‘94 all over again.

Pup and a few others need to read a lIttle Dickens to see what their “perfect conservative world” is really like. Or maybe just observe the predator-prey relationship, and realize that only a few lions of industry are eating a whole lot of gazelles in this country.

From the first I heard of this silly@$$ nonsense about holding kids out of school because BO would be addressing them, I have wondered whether the pinheads blathering about it would have their bile in such an uproar if our president were white?

I’ve seen these twits on Indy TV. I truly hope that their children are embarassed.

having to go through what? listening to the President of the united States discuss the importance of education? how awful!!! sadly, this woman does not how ignorant and gullible and intolerant and ill-informed she really is.

You do all realize the Lib-media is going to pick out the worst example ( maybe in order to sell their bad journalism) right? I will vouch for the fact that my normal right-wing sources for news have gone over the top lately in some circumstances; but, this just highlights the “entertainment” aspects of their chosen editorial stance.

Further, Lib-theory is based on the premise everything is out-of-whack and unfair; True conservatism says the private sector (i.e. “without government interference) can handle itself. Thus, the clash of primordial moitivations between the Left and Right, and their respective fringe elements.

  23. NoFearPup

    NoFearPupGenius_badge said, 2 months ago

I don’t believe in a perfect “conservative” world. Nor do I project my existential crises onto the real world, and attempt to force it to conform to my self-molded expectations. (Okay that was a little pretentious. But, you all will survive.)

Puppy, I agree with you on one point … it was lousy journalism not to question the woman further and have her explain what was so frightening to her. If the reporter asked, the editors didn’t include it in the on-air story. Lousy journalism, not “left-wing.” Those crazies are out there in big numbers.

Print media is reporting entire school districts choosing not to opt in on the president’s speech, so it was NOT sensationalism. Glad to read you’re acknowledging that some of your “normal right-wing sources for news” have gone over the top lately. Primordial understatement, I’d say.

actually church, I meant what I said, there is little independent broadcast media these days, they’re all owned by big business … including G.E., Walt Disney Co., Viacom, and Murdoch’s News Corporation … CBS is probably the most independent since it was spun off as a separate co. from Viacom

My friend’s son attends a high school in Slidell, LA and was told by his history teacher that she would screen the speech before showing it to her students and that this is how Hitler started. She went on to say “not that I think he is as bad as Hitler but we have to be careful.” If That isn’t frightening I don’t know what is. Who is she to think she can edit this all important speech and impose her warped views on her students???
I am so glad my child is out of this bigoted school system. How would this ignorant savage even know how Hitler started? She is too busy watching (not reading) Faux news.

Since Obama stole the election and he is pushing an agenda that does not have the approval of the majority of the people. Everything is going to be unbalanced until Obama and the others like him are voted out.

Since he already knows the secret code to cheat on elections it is going to be even harder to get him out and the democrats. This alone is getting people extremely upset.

When Clinton cheated he opened the flood gates of immigration. When they got sworn in they were offered to vote and 100% voted for whomever was in office as a gratitude for becoming an American citizen.

Obama has this option, 18 million illegal aliens plus his latest cheating through acorn, black panthers, unions, NGLTF, etc.

It is a nightmare. Since all the cheaters are in they are not going to correct it.

Absolute power with the democrats means absolute corruption.

rambo kitty, I agree with your comment, that particular teacher had no business comparing Obama to Hitler …. you could consider complaining to the school board …. if her remarks could have been recorded for proof, she should be disciplined. It’s scary when teachers start spewing ugly rumors and falsehoods. ideally, we want our teachers to help children understand critical thinking process, how to look for evidence behind statements, or views expressed.

This teacher clearly doesn’t know how to do it herself, and she’s teaching students how NOT to bother with evidence-based powers of thinking and persuasion.

I have family in LA and they are as red state as red state can be …. when my sister’s private insurer made a preemptive override of her physician’s decision, my nephew complained loudly about government interference. When I pointed out to him there was no government interference, it was a private, for-profit insurance co., it went in one ear and out the other, like talking to a wall.

That’s the difference between learning critical thinking skills and not even understanding what it means. It’s very scary for future of leaders in our country.

NoFear, there’s a way you can counter that. Righties just need to get an education then become teachers and professors. I did it, and believe me, nobody ever asked me for my political background. Nobody ever asked me anything political at all.
I’m no longer in that world, but maybe the reason more educators are liberal is because they are trained to think.

  37. NoFearPup

    NoFearPupGenius_badge said, 2 months ago

I have it on good authority that “trained thinkers” can miss the boat…Also, “learned commies” are responsible for the death of millions in the last century. And their nations are in worse shape this century than last. I think I’ll just wait for the Academic-Commie class to collapse under the weight of their own hubris. We see that happening before our very eyes with the Obama Administration.

  38. sclark55

    sclark55Genius_badge said, 2 months ago

Well, I must admit, there certainly are conservatives who opted out of letting their kids watch the speech, but I still think (for what it’s worth now) that if the Dept of Education hadn’t initially put out those strange recommendations about writing a ltr to the prez, there wouldn’t have been half the resistance that we saw.
