No sympathy, been there but never again, never charge more than you can’t pay in 2 months max.

Hey … the pay’s just fine. It’s the month that’s too long.

Yup. Dug that hole & just finally filled it in. Never again. I did manage to avoid the Amex merry-go-round though.

Story of my life!

I never got into that. If I can’t afford to pay with MAC or the little money I have, I don’t buy. I have no debt. There’s just one drawback… Can’t purchase on the internet. Most sites require credit cards.
fennec said, 10 months ago
That’s easy…just get one card and pay off every month. Preferably get one that gives you back $$ after a few purchases. (Of course, that’s probably an unamerican way to go , but wotthehell.)

Gary Z - if you have a checking account, you can get PayPal to deduct straight from your bank, debit style. I do that.

Did Damocles hang the sword above his OWN head? The characters in this cartoon have only themselves to blame.

Gary: fennec & MM beat me to it. There’s many ways around the “problem”.
In fact, my sister (and now I) use the tactic fennec mentioned. Buy groceries & gas on one card–pay it off at the end of the month. By the ned of the year, there’s a nice little stash there for xmas gifts (additional trick–they give you extra bonus for using their partners’ gift cards). It just takes planning & self-control; she’s better at it than I am.

I use my cards for everything and pay the full balance when due. I get lots of cash back from my cards and I pay them online from my checking. It does take some restraint and for a family it takes communication and agreement on spending. My utilities also go direct to my checking. All of these notify you of the charge pending well before they submit it to you bank, so if you mess up, you do have time to change your payment amount and make it up in next months budget, but be sure to factor in the interest!!

I’ve been told AMEX has to be paid off every month (I don’t have one so don’t know for sure). If so, this is a poor representation.
dtriedel said, 10 months ago
I’ve missed a few AMEX payments over the 40 years I’ve had the card (not intentionally), and I haven’t been charged.
claudermilk said, 10 months ago
kensburg: Yep. That’s why they introduced the typical revolving-credit cards. With the advent of online banking & debit cards attached to your checking, the classic AmEx card is both obsolete & too much hassle (they charge vendor more than the competition & are apparently the most difficult to deal with–thus the more limited acceptance).
I noticed an oddity in the toon thought, and probably an inaccuracy. Why is there a MasterCard logo on an AmEx card?
fennec said, 10 months ago
Maybe because it’s supposed to be a generic card? It actually is called “American Excess” in this toon.
claudermilk said, 10 months ago
DOH! Missed that.
