    Old stomping grounds is an expression to describe an area where someone spent much of their time in their younger days, this is just taking it literally.

    Somewhere on one of these HD’s, I have a ’toon (I think it was by Coverly) that was captioned; “Jimmy visits his old stomping ground.” and he was pointing out to his wife; “Yeah, over there is where Billy stomped me, up on that hill Ralph stomped me, and here by the sidewalk a gang of girls stomped me real good!”…
