Anyone know when the “end is near” genre of cartoons first started appearing? And/or does anyone know what real world event started them? Was there an early doomsday cult that cartoonists were making fun of?

Never cross a proctologist. They’ll always get you in the end.

@Rp GG – There used to be guys that looked like that for real, especially back in 60’s-80’s California.

People have been predicting the end of the world since about a year after the Resurrection.

ENDoscope – an appropriately named piece of equipment.

At the endoscopic centers, they put scopes down your throat for upper G.I.s as well as colonoscopies. Just hope they use a different scope for the throat….or at least wash it off a bit.

My guess, and that’s really all it is.
would be The End is Near cartoons
    we’re familiar with started showing
up in the 1920’s or early 30’s.
The beliefs of the sign -carrying
    “prophets” are never specifically
    stated aside from the statement
on the sign. The cartoons were
certainly a riff on some real-world
    scenarios people were familiar
    with.

Down your throat is right. I have to get an egd every other year. At least it’s way easier to prepare for than a colonoscopy. The only discomfort is you may have a slightly sore throat for a day or two.

Had my first colonoscopy last month. Slept through it. Was cycling the next day. THAT part of me is AOK healthwise.

It’s the prep that keeps you off the cycle the day before. : )
