Stone Soup by Jan Eliot Joan: WHOA! Taxes are due in a few days! Guess we better pull stuff together! Wally: I filed our taxes two months ago. You signed them, remember? Joan: Two MONTHS ago?? Wow, you're amazing. Val: JOAN?! WALLY?! Got a calculator I can borrow?! Mine just died and I've got to start on my taxes!! Wally: ? Wally: So...it's genetic. Joan: Let's say that...then we can blame Mom!
Does Val really need a calculator? I just plug stuff into a tax software. I admit my tax situation is simple. Val’s doesn’t seem complicated, though: a house, two kids and a traditional job that would give her a W-2. No rental properties, no small business. Maybe she has some investments, but they would mail her 1099s.Mostly it seems my tax filing is about gathering up all the forms.I don’t have kids or own a house. Is it that much more confusing?
