Except for the fools who build their luxury houses on the edge of a sand hill at the beach.

Or the ones out here that build in the hills, rebuild in the same place after a brushfire, yet don’t build fireproof houses.

And it can be done, a few do it, like the guy down in Orange County. A fire came through, wiped out all the houses around his, his survived. It made the cover of Newsweek , etc.

Field Trip on the first day of school? Maybe I should have gone to school in Canada instead of Indiana ! ! !

Why would you build a fireproof house? This way, you get a brand new house every few years, and the rest of us get higher premiums to pay for it!

some people like to live dangerously and are sure “lightning never strikes twice”. I never realized (living in the northeast for most of my life) that some places have a Fire Season. Don’t live on an island if you don’t like the ocean and I guess don’t live in a forest if you don’t like fire.

I was going to say just that! Alix goes to school with a younger clone of his step-cousin Andy!
    .
    (Andy actually lives next door.)

They’ve got a field trip already? This is great for them. I think I had only one field trip in my entire school experience. That was to a sand dune for a science class. Everyone had already seen plenty of sand dunes around here. Personally, I would have wanted a field trip to a restaurant, and then sampled the food. My mother didn’t cook.

Why do you suppose the strip takes place in Canada? Jan lives in Oregon and much of what is shown in the strip implies that the strip takes place there also. Never saw anything about Canada in any of the strips.
